Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National News Agency (LKBN) ANTARA and the Indonesian Public Relations Association (Perhumas) have signed a memorandum of understanding (Memorandum of Understanding/MoU) to enhance Indonesia’s communication ecosystem through collaboration in capacity building, media literacy, information dissemination, and strengthening PR roles in local areas.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria witnessed the signing of the MoU, which took place during the Kick Off of the Indonesian PR Convention 2026 at the ANTARA Heritage Center in Jakarta on Saturday.

“I hope this MoU is not just a formality, but a shared commitment and an example for all of us to strengthen Indonesia’s communication ecosystem,” said the President Director of LKBN ANTARA, Benny Siga Butarbutar.

According to him, the collaboration between ANTARA and Perhumas will be realized through programs aimed at enhancing the competencies of PR professionals, organizing educational forums, improving media literacy, developing crisis communication, and joint publications that benefit the community.

Benny emphasized the importance of collaboration between professional organizations and mass media in delivering quality information that can foster optimism and strengthen national unity.

“Collaboration between professional organizations and national media is crucial so that the public space is filled with quality information that builds optimism and strengthens national unity,” he stated.

Benny also mentioned that the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) presents new challenges for both PR professionals and journalists.

He noted that while AI can be utilized as a professional aid, the decision-making and considerations must remain in human hands.

Chairman of Perhumas Boy Kelana Soebroto stated that the memorandum of understanding with ANTARA includes collaboration in information dissemination, training, and capacity enhancement.

“Perhumas is the oldest and largest professional PR organization in Indonesia. We are entering into this MoU with ANTARA to collaborate on all aspects of communication, training, information dissemination, and strengthening PR professionals across Indonesia,” he said.

He hopes that ANTARA’s offices, spread across various regions, can bolster the role of Perhumas, which currently has 19 branches in Indonesia.

“Hopefully, this collaboration will further strengthen the role of PR professionals throughout the country. After all, there is a close relationship between PR practitioners and the media,” he added.

He also hopes that the collaboration between Perhumas and ANTARA can strengthen the relationship between PR and mass media in local areas, effectively conveying information to the public and promoting the advancement of Indonesia’s communication ecosystem.
